Creating and importing Rubrics via Cloud Storage

Sign up and link Rubrics to dropbox in the Rubrics app via Settings > Dropbox

Sign up and link Rubrics to google drive in the Rubrics app via Settings > Google Drive

Creating the Rubrics

Assumes you have spreadsheeting software
In Rubrics tap Reports > Email Import Template
Send this email to your pc or mac.
On your pc or mac check your email and save the attached file to your desktop.

Modifying the template

  • Open the file rubric_template.xls using your spreadsheet app i.e Excel, Open office
  • CELL A1 - Enter the Rubric name or title
  • CELL B1 to G1 - Enter Criteria. Between 2 and 6 criteria are allowed
  • CELL A2 downwards - Enter each skill or task

Save template as CSV format

CSV is a raw text file format with fields seperated by commas.
  • Save the file as .csv (Comma seperated values)
  • Ensure file encoding ASCII or UTF8
  • UTF8 is required if using non-english characters


  • Depending on your spreadsheet app you may be prompted to select additional options
  • select field delimeter to be a comma ,
  • select text delimeter to be a double quote "

Rename the file

This step is important as rubrics looks for the file extension .rubric
Excel will automatically save the file with the extension .csv
Manually rename the file to have the extension .rubric

Save to iCloud Drive

Copy the .rubric file to the Rubrics folder on iCloud.

Save to Dropbox

Copy the .rubric file to the Apps/Rubrics/ folder on dropbox.

Save to Google Drive

Copy the .rubric file to the root folder on google drive.

Import the Rubric

Switch to the Rubrics application on your iPad.

Tap Settings > iCloud Drive or Settings > Dropbox or Settings > Google Drive

Tap the .rubric file and follow the prompts to import.

Navigate to Settings > Rubrics and enter the 'par score'
